Interview with Ian Strange / Kid Zoom






q)Who are you? Where are you from and where do you live now?

a)Ian Strange / Kid Zoom, I'm originally from Perth, Western Australia but i now live in Brooklyn, New York.

q)What is it that you do? What media do you use?

a)I paint with Aerosol

q)What do you think sets your work apart?

a)I apply classical oil painting techniques with free-hand aerosol, which not many people do.

q)How long have you been showing your work for? Did you have a “big break?”

a)Ive been showing for several years, the biggest break i ever got was meeting Ron English in Sydney while i was hijacking bus-shelters there. He took me under his wing and really helped me make my mark in the US.

q)What are some things that have inspired you?

a)Cinema is a huge inspiration to me, the work of akut from maclaim crew in germany is one of my idols.

q)What have you been working on recently?

a)Intergrating my work more with other mediums and collaberations with other artists.

q)Do you listen to music while you create your work? If so, would you give some examples?

a)I listen to alot of books on tape, but when i do listen to music is generally very ecclectic. Everything from dub-step/dnb to classical.

q)Do you do work in any other media? Other projects not necessarily related to your main body of work?

a)I experiment with photography and video, but the majority of my work is freehand aerosol.

q)What advice do you have for artists looking to show their work?

a)Dont stop working.

q)Do you have any upcoming exhibitions of your work that you can mention?

a)Since my solo show last december in newyork ive been offered the opportunity to persue some life long dream projects. At the moment i cant really talk about them but they should be ready December 2011 / early 2012...
